REL 2184 - American Religions 1 Course Unit(s) An examination of religion in America from the precolonial era to the present day. What has it meant to be “religious” in “America,” and what has constituted an “American” “religion,” in the past and now? To answer these questions, we explore such themes as belonging, colonialism, national identity, race, gender, activism, lived religious practice, healing, pluralism, psychology, consumerism, and spirituality. Sources include sermons, films, letters, memoirs, and self-help books (REG).
