ENG 2314 - Historical Fiction 1 Course Unit(s) This course explores the genre of historical fiction and its development over time via multiple forms (novels, comics, plays, film). It examines how fictionalizations of particular historical periods (e.g. Renaissance England) and people (e.g. Elizabeth I) reflect the norms, trends, and biases of the times when they are written. We also consider how historical fiction trends influence understandings of the past and the genre’s reinforcement or subversion of ideological assumptions.
