HIST 3244 - Julius Caesar and the Fall of the Roman Republic 1 Course Unit(s) Julius Caesar is a pivotal figure, particularly significant for Americans because he represents a realized alternative to a republican government, and a study of his rise to supreme authority is an object lesson in the destabilizing and perversion of a constitution. Even so, he was a truly dramatic figure, with his great virtue, his clemency, being his tragic flaw. This course will illuminate the context and method of Caesar’s rise to power. (Pre-Modern field).
