FREN 3144 - Medieval and Renaissance French Literature: Fin’ amor and Humanism 1 Course Unit(s) A study of French literature in its historical context, from its origins to the reign of Henri IV. The course encompasses the courtly love tradition, sacred and profane theater, courtly and bourgeois realism, and humanist thought. Works and authors studied may include the chanson de geste, the troubadours, Chrétien de Troyes, Christine de Pizan, Villon, Rabelais, Marguerite de Navarre, the poets of the Pléïade, and Montaigne.
