WGS 4294 - Advanced Studies in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies 1 Course Unit(s) This interdisciplinary course provides students with an examination of significant issues at the forefront of feminist theory and research, as well as the principal theoretical debates in women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. The course includes an overview of current research in women’s, gender, and sexuality studies, emphasizing theoretical and methodological issues; the development of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies as a field; the relationship of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies to traditional fields and the nature of interdisciplinary research. It is designed primarily to encourage students to engage more deeply with questions that arise from the study of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies, as well as provide occasion for students to reflect on work done throughout the major or minor. The course also includes an independent, advanced research project, the topic of which will be chosen in close consultation with the instructor.
