BIO 2174 - Animal Nutrition

This course is an introductory survey of large and small animal nutrition with a primary focus on domestic (farm/companion) animal species, though the application of these principles to free-living wild populations will be discussed. Topics covered will include comparative anatomy and physiology of the digestive tract, classification and function of macro- and micronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, vitamins, and minerals), use of nutrients for body maintenance, growth, reproduction, and lactation, nutrient requirements and energy metabolism in domestic species, and feedstuffs commonly fed to domestic animals.
